DOHA: Qatar Petroleum's Mesaieed Terminal and Export Department celebrated its 11,000th export shipment of Qatar Land Crude Oil from its facilities in Mesaieed Industrial City yesterday.
At the function, Mohammed K Al Kubaisi, Manager of the department welcomed the distinguished guests led by Said Mubarak Al Mohannadi, Director Operations of Qatar Petroleum (QP). The event was also attended by Area Operations Managers, Department Managers, Tasweeq Management and customer representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Al Kubaisi conveyed his gratitude to H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Chairman and Managing Director of QP as well as to all QP directors and managers for their valuable support and guidance which have enabled them to achieve this remarkable landmark.
Al Mohannadi presented mementoes to the representatives of QP's crude oil customer, Idemitsu Kosan Company Ltd, and the ship owner NYK Lines of Japan.
In response, Yoshi Yamakawa, Executive Officer and General Manager of Idemitsu's International Petroleum Business Development, extended his best wishes to QP for achieving this milestone.
The 11,000th shipment was loaded to the tanker "Towada" on December 12. The loading operation was inaugurated by Al Mohannadi from the Multi Product Berth Control Room at the Mesaieed Terminal.
The first-ever crude oil shipment from the State of Qatar was made from this terminal on December 31, 1949 on the tanker "President Meny". The tanker carried about 94,000 barrels, which took approximately 72 hours to load. In contrast, the 11,000th shipment of approximately 653,000 barrels was loaded in just about 12 hours time.
Over the past 62 years of continuous development, the Mesaieed Terminal has become one of the major export terminals in the Middle East.
