ABU DHABI, 20th September, 2015 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, the body responsible for developing quality control infrastructure and raising awareness on quality standards in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, has started the verification of applications from companies seeking to certify their air and water-cooled chillers.

The certification will qualify them to use the Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance in product promotion, allowing consumers to quickly identify and choose products that are compliant with the relevant standards.

The Air/Water-cooled Chillers Certification Scheme was launched following an extensive consultation process with key government and industry stakeholders. The requirements of the conformity scheme include high quality, safety of operation, high energy efficiency and zero impact on the ozone layer.

SKM Air Conditioning LLC, a manufacturer of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, HVAC, equipment in the GCC region, has become the first company to be awarded the certification under the scheme.

Sultan Saeed Al Mehairi, Director of Information Service and Engagement at QCC, said, "The product certification scheme for air-cooled and water-cooled chillers demonstrates our priority to support the Abu Dhabi government?s quest for energy efficient sustainability through research, standards development and conformity scheme services. The scheme will support the ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency and minimise consumption through improving the performance of air and water-cooled chillers and promoting the products that carry Abu Dhabi Trustmark for Environmental Performance. It is also designed to meet the requirements of other government entities such as the Abu Dhabi Planning Council, UPC, and its Estidama Pearl Rating Systems."He added, "The latest scheme is part of QCC?s continued efforts to enable regulators and industry sectors to ensure that products, systems and personnel are tested and certified to the UAE?s as well as international standards. As power usage for cooling currently accounts for nearly 20% of electricity consumed, the scheme will significantly benefit our emirate by reducing energy consumption and maintenance expenses. Increasing the use of energy efficient chillers and air conditioning systems is of key importance if we are to attain our goal of reducing overall energy consumption and peak demand."Congratulating SKM Air Conditioning on becoming the first firm to receive the certification, Al Mehairi urged other manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers to opt for the certification.
