DOHA: Qatargas has won an international award for a road safety TV commercial produced in 2012 as part of the Company's annual road safety campaign, a press statement said yesterday. 

The award has been presented by the AVA Digital Awards, an international competition that recognises outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of media that is part of the evolution of digital communication.

Ghanim Al Kuwari, Chief Operating Officer (Administration) of Qatargas received the award on behalf of the company. 

"We are very happy to receive this award. Promoting road safety is a key element of Qatargas' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and this award will certainly motivate us to do more towards spreading the message of road safety in Qatar," said Ghanim Al Kuwari.

"For the past six years, Qatargas has worked together with the Traffic Department in organising the annual Ramadan Road Safety Campaign aimed at spreading awareness on road safety especially among our younger generation," he said.

The TV commercial titled "Was it worth the risk?" was produced as part of Qatargas' annual Ramadan Road Safety Campaign in 2012. It was aired throughout the month of Ramadan in cinemas and on local TV channels. Targeted mainly at young Qatari drivers, the 60 seconds commercial featured real accident scenarios highlighting the dangers of using mobile phones while driving as well reckless driving.

In addition to the month-long campaign, organised each year, during the month of Ramadan in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior's Traffic Department, Qatargas has several initiatives that support the promotion of road safety and safe driving habits. These include road safety awareness campaigns in schools, participation in the annual GCC Traffic week activities as well as utilising other public engagement opportunities such as sporting events sponsored by Qatargas.

The AVA Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). The Association administers recognition programmes, provides judges and rewards outstanding achievement and service to the profession.
