DOHA - The Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA) will cover the mega projects including the Pearl Qatar, Doha International Airport and Education City projects in its proposed masterplan, reports Al Sharq.
However, the areas like Dukhan and Messaied, where major petroleum companies are situated, will be excluded from it.
The UPDA, which has already launched a survey prior to the preparation of the masterplan, is expected to begin the work on the masterplan by December. As part of it, UPDA has started coordinating with various government and private agencies.
The masterplan, which envisages Qatar's development for the next twenty years, will have its focus on minimizing the possible negative impacts on its basic infrastructure like transportation, sewage network and water distribution network. It will also have its focus on developing Qatar as one of the tourist hotspots in the Middle East.
Qatar is experiencing a massive economic and industrial growth. The rapid growth has been characterized by the urgent need towards the development of both infrastructure projects and execution of major transportation projects. The masterplan will set the guidelines on how to adopt a systematic approach in the planning and implementation of transportation infrastructure network, the daily reports.
