Doha - A roundabout in the city that is a familiar spot for congestion will soon be getting traffic lights. Work is currently in progress at the roundabout that connects the E-Ring Road with the Abu Hamour educational district.
The lights being installed by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) are expected to be operational soon. The facility is expected to regulate the traffic in the area that connects three major roads leading to Abu Hamour and the Industrial Area.
Located at the extreme end of the E-Ring Road, close to the Medical Commission and the Woqod petrol station, this roundabout has heavy traffic during peak hours. It is the main entry point to a number of schools located in Abu Hamour. Lorries moving towards the industrial area make the traffic there even more chaotic.
Some of the largest private and community schools, like MES Indian School, Pakistan Education Center, Doha Modern Indian School, Bangaldeshi School, Al Jazeera Academy and Bright Future Pakistani School are located in this area. Many other schools are preparing to shift their premises to this educational district.
Ashghal has already installed lights at several major roundabouts in the city, including the Mall, Tadamun, TV and Al Markhiya roundabouts. Despite some initial problems in operation, these lights have been successful in regulating the traffic and reducing the congestion significantly.
