Doha: Qatar will host the 24th World LP Gas Forum for the first time from September 26 to 29 at the Sheraton Hotel. This time the forum will be titled "Delivering a Future of Exceptional Energy" and it will try to encourage countries to shift from high carbon producing fuels to liquid petroleum gas (LPG).
"LP gas is a unique fuel, an energy solution for billions of people" said James Rockall, CEO of the World LP Gas Association, an organisation that counts over 200 members operating in 90 countries. 240 million tonnes of LP gas was consumed in 2010 itself and more than 100 million tones supply increase is expected by 2025. These data give an idea of how many people and countries every year need and choose LP gas, a fuel considered clean as it causes little pollution, no smoke or residual with particulate matter, and that is easily available and transported.
"The LPG industry is set to scale newer heights with countries around the world realising the significance of adopting green energy," said Saad Al Kuwari, CEO of Tasweeq, at a press conference held yesterday at the Sheraton.
Since 2010 Qatar is the largest liquefied natural gas producer in the world and the country's LPG output will also increase to 11 million tonnes by the end of 2012, making Qatar one of the world's leading LPG exporting countries with a strategic geographic location between the Far East and the Indian sub-continent.
"Qatar can lead this transformation: this is why it is so exciting to be in Doha" said Rockall.
The forum will be inaugurated by H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, on September 27 and thousands participants are expected to come as the 23rd forum in Madrid attracted over 3,000 people.
