Doha - Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Ltd (II), (RasGas II) announced on Wednesday the naming of three more of its long term charter ships with two ship owning consortiums at ceremonies held at Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co Ltd, Korea.
The first two ships owned by a Japanese ship-owners consortium, MOL, NYK and K-Line and Qatar Shipping with carrying capacity of 145,000 cubic meters of LNG were named Al Thakhira and Al Deebel at a ceremony held at Samsung Shipyard on Wednesday.
The two ships are to be delivered to RasGas in October and December respectively, becoming the fourth and fifth ships to join the expanding RasGas fleet that also include the Lusail, delivered earlier this year, the Fuwairit and Maersk Ras Laffan.
Said Mubarak Al Mohannadi and Rashid Misfer Al Hajri, members of RasGas (II) Board of Directors, were the guests of honour at the naming ceremony.
The third ship, owned by Maran Gas Maritime Inc and Qatar Gas Transport Company was named Umm Bab at a ceremony held at Daewoo Shipyard yesterday.
The ship is the first LNG carrier to be delivered into long-term RasGas services. With a carrying capacity of 145,700 cubic meters, the ship will also be the largest to join RasGas fleet and is scheduled for delivery in October.
Under the terms of the Time Charter agreements, RasGas will charter these vessels for a firm period of 20 to 25 years to deliver LNG from existing and future facilities at Ras Laffan Industrial City to its growing portfolio of customers around the world.
