Doha - The Al-Khor International School (British Stream) will represent Qatar at the 'World Robot Olympiad 2008' to be held in Japan from October 31 to November 2. The school emerged as the champion at the 'Qatar National Robot Olympiad (QNRO) held at the Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS) on Tuesday. QNRO is an annual robotics event jointly hosted by Edutech Middle East, a leading provider of technology-enabled learning solutions, and the Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS). This is the second year the School is representing Qatar at the world event.
Abdul Al Aziz Al Sahlawi, Manager, Corporate Training, presented the gold trophy, certificate and a LEGO brick trophy to the winners.
The competition required teams to solve a set of problems using a set of standard mechanical parts. This year's event was judged by Dr. Mohamad Al Meer, Head of Computer Science, University of Qatar and Yousuf El-Thahir, Head of Math & Science - Corporate Training, Qatar Petroleum.
"Edutech has been a part of the 'Qatar National Robot Olympiad since its initial staging. QNRO has become a defining moment for many young and talented students - not only those who have emerged as winners but also those who have continuously worked towards improving their skills in robotics", said ASF Karim, CEO, Edutech Middle East.
The entire contest had proven to be as exciting as anticipated, with students from government and private schools in Qatar showing exemplary spirit during their participation in this year's QNRO. Under the theme 'Saving Global Environment', the event attracted young scientists with creative skills in robotics for a friendly competition with their peers, with aims of advancing robotics technology within the academic community and among the younger population, he said.
