DOHA - Qatar Foundation Research Division and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) have announced yesterday that they are jointly holding a BioQatar symposium on November 17 and 18 at the Sharq Village & Spa, Doha, Qatar. The symposium will provide a comprehensive insight into Qatar's rapidly expanding area of research and development as well as providing partnership opportunities for businesses and universities.

It will cover topics relevant to cancer and diabetes biotechnology techniques, such as the use of cancer stem cells, genomics, proteomics approaches and molecular imaging techniques for treatment. It also will provide medical professionals the opportunity to better understand Qatar's strategy, infrastructure and support for developing and commercialising these disease technologies.

"Medical prevention, healthcare treatment, research and development are key tools to the wellbeing and prosperity of a country", said Vice President, Research, Qatar Foundation, Dr Abdelali Haoudi. "Advances in basic theory and experimental methodologies are rapidly bringing biotechnology techniques closer to important and practical applications and Qatar wants to be at the forefront of this innovative movement".

Keynote speakers will be Professor Sir Martin Evans, winner of The Nobel Prize in Medicine 2007, and Professor Sir Christopher Evans, Chairman, Merlin Biosciences, UK.
