RIYADH: The Proton Holdings Berhad and its Saudi partner Al-Rashed & Al-Thunayan launched its third model, Persona, in the Saudi market at a reception at the Riyadh Marriott Hotel on Saturday night. Among those present were Malaysian Ambassador Prof. Syed Omar Mohamed Al-Saggaf; Fahed Al-Thunayan, deputy chairman of Al-Rashed & Al-Thunayan; and Dr. Yahia Al-Eissa, executive president.
Talking on the occasion, Dato Syed Zainal, Proton's managing director, said that the model is known for its advanced style, generous interior and luggage space. It has been developed with Proton's commitment to improve in every way -- from design, styling and production to sales and after-sales.
These attributes and qualities have won Persona the Best Model of the Year for Malaysia at the 2008 Frost & Sullivan Automotive Awards for the South East Asian (ASEAN) market.
"We are extremely proud of winning this award as it affirms our belief in the car's quality standards and a testament to Proton's ability to produce quality cars," he said at the glittering launch ceremony. He added that the award recognizes Persona as the "best-in-class." More than 59,000 people in Malaysia have endorsed it as their preferred car.
"For the local market, we want our next offering to be able to attract and meet the expectations of the Saudis. Given the earlier endorsement for Persona in other markets, we feel that it will also be received well by the Saudi market," he said.
Persona is powered by the enhanced Campro IAFM (intake air fuel module) engine, which promises smooth drivability and riding comfort. The car is also being engineered by Lotus, which promises an excellent ride and handling experience for the customer.
Khaled Al-Thunayan of Al-Rashed & Al-Thunayan said that much has been achieved during the last two years since Proton cars were introduced in Saudi Arabia." With the introduction of Persona, he's eagerly looking forward to further strengthen the cooperation between Proton Company and Al-Rashed & Al-Thunayan.
