Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China's Zhong Tang Sky Railway Group to explore suspended transport systems in the context of improving public transport in Dubai.
The MoU was signed by Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes, CEO of RTA's Rail Agency and Tang Tong, Chairman of Zhong Tang Sky Train with officials of Centurion Company, the UAE representative of Zhong Tang Sky Railway Group, in attendance, according to an RTA press statement.
The Chengdu-based Zhongtang Sky Railway Group is the developer of the ‘Sky Train’ suspended railway system consisting of trains powered by lithium batteries instead of electricity, according to past Chinese media reports.

Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Younes said: “The signing of this MoU is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to increase public transportation trips to 26 percent by 2030. RTA is signing MoUs with a host of specialist companies in the development of suspended transport systems to identify the technologies used in this sort of mass transit means."
"We will be able to screen and obtain the best technologies and select the best systems for implementation in Dubai,” he added.
State-owned news agency Xinhua reported in January 2018 that the Sky Train, which is operated five metres above the ground, can run at speeds up to 65 kilometres per hour.
