Dubai: Latest government data on prices of commodities in select supermarkets across the UAE show most prices remained unchanged from the last update.

Dry red Indian onions at Carrefour, Dubai now sells for Dh1.15 per kg from last week's Dh1.10. Lulu Centre and Al Ittihad Cooperative Society now offer the same for Dh1.65 and Dh1.95 respectively, a slight increase from Dh1.95 and Dh1.15 earlier.

Potatoes from Saudi Arabia at Carrefour are selling for Dh2.10 per kg and Dh2.25 per kg at Al Ittihad and Lulu.

A 5kg bag of Tilda Basmati Rice at Al Ittihad sells for Dh75 while a bag of six big slices of white bread is Dh2.10 at Carrefour.

Pure refined granulated sugar is now cheaper at Al Ittihad at Dh4.95 from Dh6.25 last week.

Readers of Gulf News' online edition left comments on the website noting the decrease in prices last week.

But Tarek Jafar from Fujairah said consumers still had to spend more because they can only buy low-priced items that come in packs of three to five pieces of an item even if they only needed one piece.

Ananth of Dubai stressed that many expatriates are not benefiting from the price reductions as restaurants have not reduced their prices.

Jennifer Grebe and Adnan from Dubai meanwhile welcomed the efforts undertaken by the government and the supermarkets in keeping prices stable.
