Islamabad, 13 Aug. 2009 (WAM) - President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan received today at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi and his accompanying delegation.

Sheikh Hamdan conveyed to President Zardari greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

For his part, President Zardari asked Sheikh Hamdan to pass on his greetings to Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, and his wishes of good health to them and for further progress and prosperity to the people of the UAE.

During the meeting, President Zardari and Sheikh Hamdan discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries them in the different fields.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasised the keenness of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to enhance relations with Pakistan for the benefit of the two friendly peoples. He praised the progressive ties between the two countries under the wise leadership of Sheikh Khalifa and President Zardari.

President Zardari welcomed Sheikh Hamdan and expressed the hope that his visit would help deepening cooperation between the two countries.

He lauded the wise policy of the UAE and the great achievements made there. He also expressed gratitude to the key role played by the UAE in supporting the Pakistani people in the development and humanitarian fields, saying that the Pakistani people value that support.

President Zardari also thanked Sheikh Hamdan and the UAE Red Crescent Authority for helping the Pakistani people during difficult times.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ali Saif Sultan Al Awani, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Ambassador Isa Abu Shihab and Sultan bin Khalifa Al Rumaithi.

From the Pakistani side, it was attended by Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Rahman Malik, Advisor to the Interior Minister.

Sheikh Hamdan arrived earlier today in Islamabad and was received by Arbab Alamgir Khan, Pakistani Minister of Communications, and a number of senior officials.
