Abu Dhabi - The fourth annual Pink Polo match is set to take place on Friday, November 8, at Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club bringing together the Emirati polo team against the Argentinean one, organisers announced on Tuesday.

The match aims to increase breast cancer awareness in the UAE and all donations, along with 20 per cent of the sales proceeds, will go to Pink Caravan, a campaign that aims to raise Dh15 million to battle breast cancer.

Attendees can expect lots of other attractions on the sidelines of the match. These include face painting, henna, live DJ, and a best ‘pink dressed’ award for adults, children, and even pets, among other attractions.

There will also be a Pink Clinic where attendees can meet medical experts and breast cancer survivors and undergo free screening at the mobile mammography unit.

“With the tremendous response [the event] has achieved so far, we are positive that this will be a hallmark event that will place the UAE as a nation that cares and promotes worthy causes, bringing maximum awareness to its growing population and thereby setting an example for other nations to follow,” Saeed Bin Houfan, vice-chairman of Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club, said.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UAE and is the second biggest killer of women in the country. If discovered and treated at an early stage, 98 per cent of sufferers can survive. However, only 30 per cent of breast cancer cases in the UAE are diagnosed early.
