MUSCAT -- The Omani pavilion at the Anuga Food Exhibition at Cologne, Germany attracted a number of visitors resulting in orders estimated around $1 million, it was revealed here.

The exhibition had 14 participants from five Omani food industries and was headed by Faris Al Farsi, acting director-general of Export Development of the Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ociped).

The Omani participants felt confident after having met many of the importers and distributors of food products and said that this would result in substantial orders to the tune of approximately $1 million.

The companies which took part in the expo included AATCO LLC, Mehdi Foods LLC, Nizwa Food Industries, National Biscuit Industries Ltd SAOG and Sun Packaging Company LLC.

Some of the food products displayed by them were food condiments, potato chips, snacks and juices, fruit jam, jelly, cream caramel, custard powder, honey, biscuits, wafers, snacks and packaging materials for the food industry.

The participants stated that they had a good response for all products displayed by them.

The Omani exporters also had a fair exposure to the latest equipment, machineries and technology used for food processing as well as different packing methods.

Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman in Germany, visited the Omani pavilion at the exhibition centre and interacted with all the five participating companies.

The ambassador hoped that this exhibition would increase the trade between the Sultanate of Oman and European Union in general and between the Sultanate of Oman and Germany in particular.

The Omani pavilion was also visited by Friedhelm Jost, honorary consulate-general of Sultanate of Oman in Frankfurt, Germany.

Faris Al Farsi, acting director-general of Ociped is upbeat about the outcome of Omani participation and hoped that the food processing and the packaging companies would follow up with the various leads generated at the show.
