MUSCAT -- Oman's premier three-day higher education, training and job search exhibition -- Ghedex, Trainex and Jobex -- concluded on a high note, with an estimated total of 16,000 visitors visiting the stalls, at the Oman International Exhibition Centre, in Seeb, yesterday. For Omani school-leavers, young professionals seeking to augment their existing qualifications or seeking better positions and for those wishing to pursue vocational studies, the exhibition gave them the best chance to find the best available courses and employment opportunities, not only locally, but also regionally and internationally as well.

With a total of 240 participants, made up of 195 stalls in the Ghedex (Gulf Higher Education Exhibition -- which saw a growth of 35 per cent over last years figures) section, 30 in Trainex and 15 in Jobex, this year's exhibition offered a wide array of placements. Commenting on this year's exhibition, which is the 8th Ghedex, 7th Trainex and 6th Jobex to be held here, Sadiq Ahmed Khan, Director -- Sales & Marketing, Oman International Trade Exhibitions (OITE), the organisers of the event, noted: "This year they had witnessed good growth in comparison to the previous year with many new first-time participants."

Ibtessam Netfa, Regional HR Manager, Oil & Gas, General Electric (GE), Doha -- Qatar and Ahsan Jalal, Business Development Manager of Polyglot Institute Oman LLC and of Rusayl Institute LLC, participants at the event, spoke to the Observer about the exhibition and what they had to offer and hoped to achieve.

Jalal said, as participants in the Trainex section they are representing Polyglot, Rusayl and the up-coming Sohar Institutes, which are all run under one management. He said theirs is a 32-year old organisation and they offer a diverse range of courses that includes, English Language, IT, Computing, Administration and Finance. He pointed out that they are the first institute in Oman to gain ISO certification.

At the Rusayl Institute they offer technical training courses in mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. There are also a selection of short professional technical courses on offer, he added. The new upcoming Sohar Institue is a unique facility, which will be offering technical and commercial courses, said Jalal.

Ibtessam noted, after attending the Job Fair at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the Jobex allowed them to represent their company and present themselves as one of the regional companies supporting national programmes -- in connection with improving. She said there has been a lot of interest generated and she has noted that many of the young Omanis she has met with are keen on learning, accessing training and understanding more about what the company is about and what they have to offer. She noted that they were good at expressing and presenting themselves.
