Muscat: Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has opened the doors for bidding to provide re-sale of basic public mobile communications services in country.
TRA will issue licences for an infinite number of applicants for such services who meet criteria including technical and financial requirements, said a statement issued through Oman News Agency on Friday.
The new service is related to re-sale of basic public mobile telecommunications services by purchasing the transmission minutes from the public mobile operators in the sultanate (Oman Mobile and Nawaras) at wholesale rates, without owning or operating its private network.
According to their licence terms, the applicants should have separate contracts with the mobile operators before being granted the licence.
The licensee will re-sell the minutes at the retail rates fixed by him through communication cards that carry its brand.
The move will ensure competition among service providers and licensed basic public mobile telecommunications service operators to market their products and additional services rendered.
The licensee will be allowed to provide basic public mobile telecommunications services, such as, personal interface programming, recharging, billing and customer service.
