MUSCAT -- Oman will open a full-fledged Embassy in Bangladesh, the Embassy of Bangladesh said in a press statement issued here yesterday. The move follows Royal approval for the establishment of the Sultanate's Embassy in this south Asian nation, it added. In this regard, the Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in the process of finalising legal procedures, which are expected to be completed soon.

Once the legal process is completed, an official Omani delegation will visit Bangladesh to conclude all formalities in this regard, including the identification of a suitable place for the Embassy, said Mohammad Khorshed A Khastagir, Counsellor (Political). It may be recalled that Dr Dipu Moni, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, during her visit to the Sultanate in April this year, had urged her counterpart, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, to expedite the process of establishing a full-fledged Omani Embassy in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh had opened its resident mission in Muscat, at the level of Charge d'Affaires, on March 5, 1983, upgrading it to the level of Ambassador in 1995. "It goes without saying that the opening of a full-fledged Embassy by the Sultanate will facilitate the prospect of strengthening and promoting bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries in mutually beneficial ways, particularly enhancing the scope for trade and investment," the statement added.

The Bangladeshi Embassy also announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Al Badi Group (Oman) and Studio Ecotecture Limited (Bangladesh) for the provision of professional services in the fields of engineering, construction, infrastructure and the allied sectors. The pact was inked during the recent visit of an Omani trade delegation, led by Shaikh Ali bin Abdullah al Badi, Member of the Majlis Ash'shura and Chairman of Al Badi Group. A growing number of Bangladeshi firms are showing keen interest in doing business, notably through joint venture arrangements, in the Sultanate.
