MUSCAT -- Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and Energy Machine Services LLC yesterday inked a significant deal in the area of low and high voltage electrical motors.

Graham Barker, infrastructure manager, PDO; and Suresh B. Nair, managing director, EMS, were the signatories at a high-profile function held at Le Caprice at Muscat InterContinental Hotel yesterday evening.

The signing was done in the presence of a host of dignitaries, including Blankenstein, the German ambassador to the Sultanate, top PDO officials, and others from Electrical Machine Industries Bahrain (EMIB) and the German electrical machine manufacturer, AEG/LDW (Lloyd Dynamowerke).

The signing is for a three-year service contract for low voltage certified and low voltage non-certified and high voltage electrical motors in operation within PDO.

"With this signing, EMS/EMIB will be responsible for the next three years for the service, repair, rewinding of all the electrical machines in operation within PDO," Suresh Nair told the Times of Oman.

The three-year contract is renewable after every three years. A single reliable entity will be responsible for all the repair work concerned, which is of due benefit to both parties.

The EMS is a joint venture between them and their principals, EMIB. "This contract calls for the repair and rewinding of all the electrical motors (low voltage certified, low voltage non-certified and high voltage) in PDO's operation for the coming three years," Suresh said.

The EMIB is established in Bahrain as a joint venture of the well-known German electrical manufacturer AEG/LDW and Muharraq Engineering Services of Bahrain.

The EMS and EMIB have jointly undertaken several individual projects for repair and rewinding of 5.5 to 10 MW machines with PDO, the Ministry of Defence and other top clients in Oman for the past several years.

The EMS is an engineering, service and trading company exclusively dealing in the oil, gas and other energy service sectors of Oman. "We represent many major manufacturers who play an active role in the drilling, production and refining of hydrocarbon and related industries," Suresh said.

With regards to competition, he said: "We believe with the profound support from our principles, who are all highly professional and technically competent in their own respected fields and our professionalism and marketing strategy will help us to sustain in this highly competitive market."

Currently, they are exclusively in oil, gas, refining, electrical energy related areas. "It is a very vast field with new technology being introduced ever so often. We always keep ourselves abreast with the market changes and we are also keen to introducing new technology," Suresh said.

The EMIB is one of the leading companies in the field of electrical rotating machine service, repair and rewinding in Bahrain. It is a professionally managed company with a joint venture of AEG/LDW, a well-known reputed electrical machine manufacturer in Germany.

Norbert Engle, the general manager of EMIB, oversees the entire operations.
