MUSCAT — The London-based Harrods of Knightsbridge, a prestigious store in the world, has released its perfume ranking for the first half of 2003. This eagerly awaited list, released twice a year, ranks the sales of the top 100 brands of perfumes sold in its flagship store in London.

This time, the list had a wonderful surprise for Oman — out of the top 100 brands, Amouage ranked No. 11, beating most of the world’s biggest brands.

Furthermore, it is learnt that Amouage missed the No. 8 spot by just £1000 of sales.

This clearly shows that Amouage has now really arrived on the world prestige perfume map. Just a couple of years ago, Amouage did not even feature on the top 100 brands list, and now it has jumped to right No. 11, and is rising fast.

This comes close on the heels of its No. 2 ranking in Debenhams and No. 1 ranking in Printemps, both in Saudi Arabia.

As the only brand from outside Europe, Japan and the US to have ever won the prestigious Frontier Star Product of the Year Award, at Cannes in France.

Amouage is the only recognised international prestige brand from the entire Arabian region. It is really fulfilling its mission of taking the best of Arabia to the world.

While the world perfume industry is reporting nil or insignificant growth this year, Amouage sales in the US are growing by over 80 per cent per annum, and even in recession-hit Germany, its sales are shooting up by over 70 per cent.

While its biggest growths are now coming from the West, its home markets in the AGCC continue to grow strongly too, and Sayed Javed, senior sales and marketing manager, confirms that 2003 will see the company’s highest AGCC retail sales in its history.
