MUSCAT -- With the launch of additional flights on a range of direct international flights from Muscat to major Gulf destinations and beyond, the steady expansion of Oman Air's operations will boost the economy of the company and the nation as a whole, said Salim bin Mussalam al Kathiry, Director-General, Sultanate's Commercial Office, Dubai on the launch of Oman Air's flight to Ras al Khaimah International Airport, recently.

This, is evident with Oman Air's authorised capital increase from RO 300 million to RO 500 million and with capacity increase of about 28 per cent as of last year with an addition of five Boeing 737s, four wide bodied aircraft and five long haul destinations.

"Oman Air is the first aircraft to call at Ras al Khaimah International Airport, which will enable them to operate direct flights from Muscat daily to connect passengers to and from other destinations in the region", noted Al Kathiry.

Also commenting on the occasion, Shaikh Omar bin Saqer al Qasmi, Chairman of the Private Department of the Ruler of the Emirates said the launch of Oman Air's flights to the emirates would further boost the tourism sector in the region.

"Ras al Khaimah is one of the gateways to the tourism sector in the region and the rest of the world. The moment we receive a new aircraft on list of airliners calling at this airport, we indeed welcome the idea, particularly that we are trying to expand the potential of the tourism industry", he said.

Currently, the airport hosts airlines, cargo and many chartered flights from Europe, Germany, Scandinavia and the UK besides an abundance of attractions for tourists who treasure the beauty of nature, culture and peacefulness of the region as a whole, he added.

Peter Hill, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Oman Air said, the launch of daily flights to Ras al Khaimah is one of the seven 'non-stop new destinations' offered by the airlines within a span of only two months.

"Oman Air is also committed to enhance its operations with the launch of additional non-stop flights to Pakistan in Lahore on May 10 and to Islamabad on May 15. The trend will follow suit with the launch of a direct flight to Dar-es-Salaam on June 1 and to Kathmandu in Nepal on June 17 with a target to reach 40 destinations, which will coincide with the Sultanate's Renaissance this year", stated Hill.

Oman Air is delighted to operate further international direct flights to its customers from Muscat to a range of countries in Asia, Europe, the Far East, and the GCC countries in addition to the domestic services it extends to Salalah and Khasab, he said.

The launch of Oman Air's 34th destination to Ras al Khaimah was led by a high-level delegation from Oman Air, including Oman Air's CEO. The new route operated by Oman Air's Boeing 737 and ATR 42-500 will depart on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1300 hours to reach the destination within an hour and five minutes. However, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, the flight will depart at 2030 and reach Ras al Khaimah within the same duration besides an additional flight that will take off on Sundays at 1600 hours and return to Muscat at 2005.

The departure schedule from Ras al Khaimah to Muscat on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays will be at 1435 hours. On Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays the flight will return at 2225.

Oman Air is the flag carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, which, since its inception in 1993, the airline has witnessed massive growth and played a significant role in making Muscat an important destination in the Middle East, supporting the commercial, industrial and tourism sectors.
