MOSCOW - Head of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Anti-Terrorism Centre, Andrei Novikov, announced that intelligence agencies are taking precautionary steps to prevent Russian and CIS citizens from traveling to Syria to fight alongside terrorist groups.

In a press conference on Monday, Novikov said that some of these citizens go to Syria for studies to study or receive Islamic education, and it's difficult to assess if those who ggo to Syria intend to participate in terrorist actions.

He also noted that Russian citizens of origins from the northern Caucasus go to fight alongside terrorist groups in Syria.
