RIYADH - World-renowned Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta exhibited their work at a display in King Saud University's (KSU) College of Architecture and Planning on Wednesday.

The event was inaugurated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Norway Morten Høglund on his second official visit to Riyadh, and precedes a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KSU and Snøhetta.

Expressing his delight in being back in Riyadh again, Høglund emphasized the strong ties between both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Norway: "As energy producing countries and world-leading energy exporters, our two countries share a strong belief in the need for greater global energy security.

"An impressive record of economic growth and development makes Saudi Arabia an attractive trade partner," he added.

"I am proud to note that the Norwegian company Snøhetta has already left an indelible mark on the Kingdom."

The exhibition, which features Snøhetta's best work, stands as an example of sustainable, environmentally-friendly building - a cornerstone of study at KSU's College of Architecture and Planning.

"Snøhetta is exceptional, but nevertheless embodies values and practices that have become the trademark of modern Nordic design and architecture; simplicity, functionality and an extensive use of natural materials," said Høglund.

In Saudi Arabia, Snøhetta have designed the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran as part of a deal with Saudi ARAMCO, and will have a strong role in designing stations for the planned Metro public transportation system here in the capital and in Makkah.

Globally, Snøhetta is behind Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, The National 9/11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York and the Ras al Khaimah Gateway Project in the United Arab Emirates, to name a few, and have won various awards over the years both nationally and internationally.

The exhibition at KSU is one of many exhibitions Snøhetta have showcased around the world, featuring 21 of their most renowned projects.
