Sharjah Economic Development Department holds lecture to brief authorities
Sharjah Sharjah has announced new laws regulating the manufacturing, filling and trading of gas cylinders in the emirate.
Executive Council Law No 22 of 2010 replaces Law No 16 of 1997.
The Sharjah Economic Development Department recently held a lecture to brief authorities on the new law.
“The [government] is keen to ensure that maximum safety is provided to nationals and residents when handling various vital consumer materials. In order to achieve this purpose, a new law has been implemented covering the manufacturing, filling and trading of gas cylinders,” said Ali Bin Salem Al Mahmoud, Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Department.
The penalties vary from warnings to seizure of cylinders, and fines ranging from Dh2,000 to Dh50,000.
Warnings and affordable fines will be issued for first-time violators. The penalty will be doubled in the case of a second violation, and severe measures will be taken against violators in case of a third-time breach.
The law emphasises that gas cylinders must be filled by licensed factories, and the approved price list of gas cylinders must be visible in the company’s premises or in the vehicle.
Serious action
“We will enforce the law and take serious action against offenders, and we have organised this important staff lecture to speed up the law enforcement process. It is very important that we cooperate with other departments in Sharjah to implement the law in an efficient way, with no exceptions, to ensure public safety,” said Al Mahmoud.
The new law includes a fines and penalties table for nine specific breaches, including selling expired gas cylinders, showing false expiry date, filling cylinders from unlicensed factories, importing cylinders from outside the emirate, storing cylinders in inappropriate places, in addition to selling cylinders at higher prices than those on the approved price list.
