A private hospital with 65 beds is set to open in Bur Dubai within the next fortnight one month ahead of schedule.
The International Modern Hospital has been under construction for the past two years and has cost more than Dh100 million so far. Its owners hope the growth in the population of Dubai will lead to strong demand for the hospital's services.
It will offer services such as cardiology, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, physiotherapy, radiology and intensive care. The hospital's completion comes as healthcare services in Dubai are expanding rapidly, with the first outlets in Dubai Healthcare City opening for business.
The growth in the city's healthcare infrastructure is expected to turn Dubai into a major destination for healthcare tourists, to rival other centres such as Singapore and Thailand.
"The growth of Dubai in the past three years and the increase in the number of professionals means the demand for quality services is bound to increase.
"This growth is not just happening in the UAE but regionally as well," said Dr Riad Al Jord, specialist ophthalmologist and managing director of the hospital.
The new hospital is owned by the International Medical Group, which also owns the International Private Hospital and the International Medical Centre in Jumeirah.
More than 95 per cent of staff at the new hospital have started work and the outpatient clinics are set to open soon.
