MUSCAT -- Port Services Corporation (SAOG) has announced the arrival of three new Rubber Tyred Mounted Gantry Cranes (RTGs) which will help boost services and productivity at Port Sultan Qaboos. Acquired at a cost of RO 1.5 million, the RTGs are equipped with telescopic spreader ISO 20 feet to 40 feet that can stack up to 5-high containers. The machines are manufactured by ZPMC, one of the world's leading manufacturers of container cranes and equipment.
The RTGs arrived at Port Sultan Qaboos on board the vessel Zhen Hua 13 from China on Sunday. With their arrival, the port now boasts a fleet of 10 RTGs, which will further enhance the port's operational capability resulting in higher productivity and quick delivery/receipt of containers. Port Services Corporation (SAOG) has been recording a steady increase in the volume of containers being handled at the port. The facility presently operates five quay side gantry cranes each backed up with 10 Rubber Tyred Mounted Gantry cranes.
This will further increase container yard stacking capacity by 20 per cent by raising vertical handling capabilities to five-high. Furthermore, local importers, exporters and transport companies will minimise the truck turnaround times through speedier delivery and collection of containers and better customer services.
