Dubai: The Airport Operations Data Management Centre at Dubai International Airport was opened yesterday by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group.

The centre will handle data collection, storage, accuracy checking and distribution of airport operational information.

"With the continued tremendous growth of Dubai International Airport, Emirates airline, Dnata and other aviation partners, the adoption of this technology has been very timely," he said .

He added that Dubai Civil Aviation insisted in adopting the latest technologies developed for the aviation industry worldwide.

"The adoption of aircraft movement data management will give our partners the right information at the right time, which will result in better decision making and ensure alignment with our strategic goals," said Mohammad Ahli, DCA Director of Operations.

"As Dubai's profile as a leading business and leisure destination increases each year, air traffic movement is rapidly increasing at Dubai International Airport," he added.

The airport registered 217,165 aircraft movements in 2005, an 11 per cent increase over 2004.

The Airport Operations Data Management Centre will provide numerous advantages to DIA such as a single point of operational data contact for flight processes and resources during normal and abnormal events or circumstances.

The centre will generate real-time system data for smooth passenger guidance and provide recorded flight related financial data including passenger service charges.
