TV host Al Shugairi highlights achievements
Dubai Religion is not the opiate of the people, as the communist philosopher Karl Marx famously said, but the misunderstanding of religion could be, according to the host of popular Arab TV show Khawater (thoughts).
Ahmad Al Shugairi, also a widely popular lecturer, appears on TV wearing both traditional Saudi dress and western clothing.
He says he does not consider himself a religious figure, but just “a Muslim with a message”.
Then and now
Speaking to Gulf News, Al Shugairi said his programme aims to shed light on Muslim contributions to the positive achievements of the modern world, while also highlighting Muslim achievements throughout history.
The programme offers insight on many matters, such as the role Muslims played 1,000 years ago in the advancement of many western cultures. Al Shugairi explains which fields Muslims made contributions to and what they actually invented.
A well-known personality, Al Shugairi says he does not take his fame for granted as he knows it is ephemeral. His dream is to attain inner peace.
“You have to excel and do your best, and be the best you can be on this earth and in this life. This is your road to a good life after death,” he says.
