KUWAIT: The municipal council's technical committee recommended in its meeting on Sunday to claim three blocks in Salmiya for public use and compensate the owners of the said blocks.

Committee Secretary Dr. Fadhel Safar said that the committee proposed the municipality take over blocks 66, 80 and 227 and also recommended that the municipality take over block 12 and make it a parking lot.

Safar said that the committee feels that the abovementioned blocks suffer from many problems including a lack of privacy as it is located within investment houses and businesses.

In other news, the committee entrusted in removing violations and establishments with no licenses sent a letter to Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shamali stating that a number of Sheikhs and some merchants had illegally built rest houses on state property in Arifjan.

The head of the committee General Mohammad Al-Bader pointed out that the committee has documented proof of the violations and he said the people who own these rest houses need to remove the violations immediately or suffer the consequences.

Al-Bader said this act reflects the transparency of the committee and he added that the committee handles every case equally and no one is given any special treatment.
