Buramiya wants minister to cancel event
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: MP Dr Dhaifullah Buramiya has condemned a concert the American University of Kuwait (AUK) is planning to hold next week, urging the Minister of Higher Education Dr Mudhi Al-Humoud to take a responsible stance by canceling the concert. He stressed that Islam and society frown on such an event, which is also not acceptable by the Constitution, reports Al-Shahid daily.
"It is necessary the minister bans concerts that go against the edicts of Islam, taking into account the schools and universities have been established for science and education, in order to produce efficient national workforce to push the wheel of development forward", Al-Buramiya added.
For his part, MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei said the intermingling of male and female students is banned, according to the law of private universities. He went on to reject the concert, saying it violates the customs and culture of society.
In an unrelated issue, lawmaker Dr Hassan Jowhar slammed the Minister of Commerce Ahmad Al-Haroun's objection to the draft law Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry submitted. "I expect the minister would be interested in the prices hike and protect consumers", he added.
Meanwhile, he wondered why the Minister of Communications Dr Mohammed Al-Busairi, who had earlier declared that calls will be charged per seconds, was hesitant to implement the decision and retracted his statement amid mounting pressure. He called on HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed to control such situations.
