Abdul Samad warns of budget deficit

KUWAIT CITY: MP Musallam Al-Barrak has refused to sign a parliamentary demand involving several recommendations to interrogate former Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shimali, reports Al-Seyassah.

The same sources explained that Al-Barrak was among those who presented the interpellation against Al-Shimali but now he refuses to sign the demand.

According to the sources, his decision could be as a result of some recommendations in the document which press for the Director General of Social Security Fahd Al-Raj'an to continue staying in detention until a final verdict on excesses in the institute has been declared.

Strange

They reiterated, "It's strange that Al-Barrak who claims to be protecting public funds has now refused to sign the recommendation to pave the way for two international offices to prepare reports on investments by the sector inside and outside the country".

Al-Barrak had also refused to approve the demand to stop the establishment of Kuwaiti companies to implement Al-Zour Power and Water Desalination Station projects, the daily noted.

Meanwhile, the chairperson of Budgets and Final Accounts Committee in the National Assembly MP Adnan Abdul Samad warns of impending general budget deficit due to recent decline in the prices of oil, reports Al-Seyassah.

Oil

MP Samad added the price of oil is between $101 and $103 per barrel. This means the oil revenue will be on par with the general expenditure, and the country would suffer serious deficits if previous financial surpluses were not secure while the oil price was high, noting the situation is critical.
