Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), which has declared its outside support to the TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) government in Telangana, has suggested including the historic monument of Charminar in the logo of the new state.

Charminar is a nearly 425-year-old monument built by Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of Hyderabad city.

The suggestion figured in the wide-ranging discussion MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi had with the Chief Minister designate, K. Chandrashekhar Rao. MIM floor leader in the state assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi was also present.

While MIM once again declined the invitation of KCR to join the government, it submitted a charter of demands including a separate sub-plan for the minorities on the lines of SCs (Scheduled Castes) and STs (Scheduled Tribes) adopted by the assembly in the past.

MIM demanded effective implementation of second official language status for Urdu and following a three-language formula in the state. It also wanted the KCR government to identify the central government funds available to the minorities under the 15-point programme of the prime minister.

MIM President opposed handing over the law and order powers of Hyderabad to the common governor of the state. He advised KCR to keep the police commissionerates of Hyderabad and Cyberabad and also restore the old status of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation by scrapping the present Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which incorporates parts of Ranga Reddy and Medak districts.

While restoring the old MCH, Asad suggested the surrounding areas should be declared separate municipalities or a separate smaller municipal corporation.

MIM has been opposing the GHMC on the ground that it was created only to change the demography of the corporation area to politically weaken MIM.

KCR welcoming the suggestions of MIM and asked Asaduddin Owaisi to join the government to provide good government in Telangana Hyderabad. Thanking KCR for his offer, Asaduddin Owaisi said that his party will be happy if the TRS government takes steps for the development and prosperity of Telangana.

After meeting with KCR, Asaduddin Owaisi told the media that the party was not after power. When asked whether MIM would join the government, he said, “More than the post, we are interested in solving the problems of the people.”
