A single network infiltration in computers is capable of causing losses amounting to millions of dollars to companies, says a leading anti-virus expert.
"Unfortunately, most individuals and organisation in the Middle East continue to remain oblivious to the threat posed by computer criminals," said Eugene Kaspersky, founder and head of anti-virus research for Kaspersky Lab.
He was speaking at the launch of his anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-hacking software in the Middle East on Monday.
The software will be distributed by Almasa Network Solutions, one of the leading value-added distributors of networking and security solutions in the Middle East.
"The Internet has considerably enhanced business operations across the globe. However, as more and more businesses become partially or completely dependent on the Internet, computer security and the threat of computer criminals comes to the fore," Kaspersky said.
Mehdi Amjad, group managing director of Almasa, said: "Anti-virus protection is a critical component of our information assurance initiative in Almasa Network Solutions."
The company is already Arabising the Kaspersky Lab collateral and website. The next stage is to Arabise the software itself.
The distribution agreement includes pre- and post-sales support as well as product training, thereby bringing the Kaspersky anti-virus, anti-spam, and anti-hacking product range to Middle East corporate, home computer and PDA (personal digital assistant) users.
The Kaspersky Lab product portfolio contains solutions that protect workstations, file and mail servers, email gateways, firewalls and PDAs against information threats.
