'Promote local products'
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: The Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) will soon waive KD 2,000 from unpaid bills of Kuwaiti consumers, Al-Anba daily quoted Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs Jassem Al-Lenghawi as saying.
He said Minister Dr Bader Al-Shuraiaan issued a directive to this effect in order to allow some citizens benefit from Law No. 48/2005. However, only those who never benefitted from such an offer earlier or those who applied but could not complete all procedures before the deadline will benefit this time.
The offer is open until Dec 30, 2010. Al-Lenghawi urged all those who could not avail the opportunity during the previous exercise to seize the opportunity and apply quickly.
In another development, the Planning Media Council, in its recent report, stressed the need to increase agricultural production, change the structure of commercial production, and promote local products to realize the vision of Kuwait to become a financial hub in the region, sources told Al-Wasat daily.
The council also urged the country to encourage the private sector to participate in crude oil and natural gas exploration projects, affirming that the success of the development plan also depends on the participation of this sector.
The council also emphasized the importance of improving the administrative, organizational and legal structures of the private sector, in addition to the provision of good facilities and incentives to attract investors.
