Damascus, (SANA)- The activities of 3rd annual Telecommunications and Technology MENA ICT Week 2011 is set to kick off on Saturday at the Umayyad Palace for Conferences in Damascus.

500 experts from 14 Arab and foreign countries will participate in the Week, which is organized by the Syrian Computer Society (SCS) and the Arab ICT Organization (IJMA3) from 25- 29 March.

Head of the Syrian Computer Society Rakan Razzouk said the event is considered as one of the most prominent events in the ICT sector in the Arab world after the two weeks held in Bahrain and in Beirut in the past two years.

The event constitutes an opportunity for the participation of all concerned parties working in the ICT sector for discussing the possibility of establishing partnerships among them, in addition to benefiting from the international expertise in this field.

The event encompasses several activities on the regional and international levels including the Middle East Conference for Informatics and Communications, the meeting of the Arab ICT Organization (IJMA) and the WITSA meeting, in addition to the Arab Golden Chip Awards for excellence in ICT applications and services (AGCA), business matching workshops and Cham Exhibition 2011 for Informatics and Communications.

The MENA Week will discuss the Arab strategies that aiming at achieving sustainable development for ICT, Status quo of ICT in the Arab world and the obstacles of developing this sector and Future strategies for ICT sector development.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Cham Exhibition 2011 for Informatics and Communication.

The 16th session of Cham Expo 2011 is scheduled to kick off on Friday at the Damascus International Fairgrounds with participation of 164 local, Arab and foreign companies.

Head of the Organizing Committee Iyad Sayyed Darwish said the exhibition will encompass a large number of specializations including the telecommunications, networks, internet equipments, solutions and applications, and equipment and solutions and software of the administrational, educational and industrial automation, modern computer equipment and ICT services and solutions for the suppliers and Consumers in Syria, in addition to showcasing new innovations and developments in the ICT sector.
