Abu Dhabi: Abdullah Abu Al Naga knows that maths can be a complicated subject in higher grades, and that missing a single lesson can greatly hamper a pupil’s performance.

Over the last year, the 38-year-old maths teacher from Egypt has developed and taped a series of illustrative videos for his Grade 10 and 12 pupils and posted them on YouTube.

For his efforts, Al Naga was today (Monday) awarded in the Public Education category of the Khalifa Award.

“I am passionate about teaching maths, and being recognised for pursuing the profession I love is a double delight,” the innovative educator from the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Secondary School for Boys told Gulf News.

Al Naga added that his videos, numbering nearly 50 at present and covering concepts such as trigonometry, differentiation and integration, have also helped increase his pupils’ average score from about 70 per cent to 90 per cent.

“Many pupils are able to rewatch the videos to better understand challenging math concepts. In addition, I am now working to improve communication with parents so that I am able to ease the learning process further for my pupils,” he said.
