BAGHDAD / NINA / President Fuad Masum discussed on Sunday with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif the bilateral relations and the Iranian contribution in the international conference on the situation in Iraq.
A statement by the presidency said that "President Masum expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Iranian minister and congratulations and greetings he received from President Rohani and Iranian officials, and expressed the aspiration to strengthen the historical relations between Iraq and Iran, to serve the common interests of the two countries and peoples.
He stressed "the need to actual regional and international cooperation in order to face the challenges of terrorism and defeat at the hands of the Iraqis who are exposed to the fiercest attack targeting the region and the world in general by targeting Iraq.
For his part, Zarif, according to the statement, expressed "Iran's support for the new Iraqi government and to work with them to promote relations between the two neighboring countries," praising the "important and vital role of President Jalal Talabani, who always worked in promoting attitudes and unifying the visions.
Zarif conveyed the Iranian President Hassan Rohani call to President Fuad Masum, to visit Iran, and the invitation was accepted.
