Mumbai: Good wishes are pouring in for Manasi Moghe, 22, who will represent India at the Miss Universe 2013 pageant in Moscow on November 9 and is also the hot favourite to land the crown coveted by beauties from across the world.

“We hope her dreams come true as she is a very committed young girl who prepared herself with determination for this contest,” Manasi’s father, Dr Milind Moghe, who works for Coal India, told Gulf News on the telephone from Chandrapur, some 900km from Mumbai. He is currently posted in Chandrapur.

Her mother Jayashree, who is also a doctor, says that she has always encouraged her daughter to participate in such contests and gain experience and confidence while keeping a back-up in mind.

The Moghes are proud of their daughter who is an all-rounder and enjoys dancing, singing, listening to music, travelling and playing volleyball. She did her schooling in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and later completed a Bachelor of Engineering course from St Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering and Technology in Nagpur.

For someone who enthusiastically participated in several extracurricular activities, her mother hoped Manasi would become a dancer. However, the young girl had set her mind on this intensely competitive pageant — which meant not only toning herself up physically but training herself mentally to be sharp and self-confident.

Support from her parents and motivation from her friends inspired her to go head-on into this glamorous field.

Seeing Manasi walk the ramp for the first time during the finale of Femina Miss India made Jayashree realise how talented her daughter was.

Manasi later went on to win the Miss Diva 2013 crown and until now has received a good response from well-known pageant websites that have stated that the young Indian stands among the top contenders. Global Beauties, an international pageant portal and franchise owners of Miss World Brazil, have named Manasi as the Best Personality of Asia.

Whatever the outcome, Marathi newspapers and websites are going gaga over yet another Marathi ‘mulgi’ (girl) reaching the international beauty stage — like Priyadarshini Pradhan, who won the best national costume at the Miss Universe contest in 1987, Namrata Shirodkar, Madhu Sapre, Aditi Govitrikar and Mugda Godse.
