Dubai: A trainer has been accused of taking hashish and hiding the drug in a bag of coffee in his freezer.

Drug enforcement officers were said to have found 6g of hashish during a raid on the 27-year-old French trainer’s flat in Tecom.

He denied possessing hashish for personal use and taking the drug before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.

Meanwhile his lawyer asked presiding judge Urfan Omar to adjourn the case until she prepares her defence.

An anti-narcotics police captain testified to prosecutors that an informant had tipped them off about the trainer.

“Drug enforcement officers had arrested a number of drug addicts in January. One of the detainees, an Indian named R., also claimed during questioning that the Frenchman possessed and consumed hashish…During questioning, the suspect claimed that he used hashish and hid the rest in the coffee bag so that nobody saw it,” the captain told prosecutors.

Prosecution records cited the suspect admitting that he took the hashish out of the freezer and handed it to the drug enforcement officers.

He was also quoted admitting that he took the drug from R. (Indian suspect) and hid it in the coffee to hide its smell.

Records quoted the defendant also admitting that he consumed drugs a day prior to his arrest.

Dubai Police’s criminal laboratory confirmed the Frenchman tested positive for hashish.

The trial continues.
