ABU DHABI, Feb 18th, 2008: The Maldives' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullah Shahid conveyed thanks from Maldives' President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to the leadership and people of the UAE for supporting the Maldives' people and the process of sustainable development through the construction of humanitarian projects.
Shahid made his remarks at a meeting on Monday in Abu Dhabi with director general of ZFHCW, Salim Obaid Al Dhaheri at the foundation's head office in Abu Dhabi. The Maldives' minister was referring to humanitarian projects being constructed in the Maldives by the UAE's Zayed Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Work (ZFCHW). On his part, Al Dhaheri said the UAE's humanitarian agency is planning humanitarian, educational and health projects in the Maldives following Tsunami. The Zayed College for Islamic Studies and the Zayed Center for Holy Quran are among ZFCHW's efforts in the Maldives.The Abu Dhabi-based foundation's overseas charitable activities are actively supported by the UAE government.
