DOHA: Mesaieed Industrial City is undergoing a major face lift, with the Qatar Petroleum (QP) undertaking several infrastructure projects in the booming township.

The projects include construction of a new road from Mesaieed to the Sealine beach, a major tourist destination in the country.

QP has finalised  design of the new Mesaieed-Sealine road, that will have three main intersections and special lanes for bikes as well as pedestrians, according to Al Sharq.  Street lights will be installed from the Mesaieed- Sealine bridge up to Sealine roundabout. Tender for construction of the road is expected to be invited in late July.

A study sponsored by QP is currently underway to improve traffic safety on the Mesaieed- Sealine road that had witnessed several major accidents in the past.

QP has undertaken a project worth QR700m to maintain and renovate the interior roads in residential areas in Mesaieed and develop other infrastructural facilities. This project is scheduled to be completed in a year.

Another project costing QR800m aims to  develop the roads and infrastructural projects in that part of the Mesaieed Industrial City that accommodates all the light industries. This project will be carried out with participation of local investors, said the daily.

A similar project to renovate roads is nearing completion in areas that houses  the heavy industries in the city.  The project includes construction of new intersections and expansion of several existing roundabouts.

All markets and residential complexes in the city will be developed or renovated as part of the new projects. Woqod will set up two more petrol stations.
