BASRA: Director of Joint Commission for gigantic Majnoun oilfield said here today that the production of the field exceeded 210.000 b/d, with expectations to increase this figure.

Basim Tahir told Aswat al-Iraq added that the production may be increased to 220.000 b/d at the beginning of the next year.

He added that the gas shall be invested by the ministry to supply Rumaila energy station.

Majnoun oilfield started actual production before two months after a stoppage that lasted for more than one year, where its production was 175.000 b/d.

Majnoun oilfield is situated in Basra which is regarded one of the biggest oilfields in the world, with 38 billion barrels capacity, according Iraqi oil ministry figures.

It is now under technical service contract with Shell, PETRONAS and Iraqi Missan oil companies.
