DUBAI, May 3rd, 2009: Under the sponsorship of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture Authority, honored yesterday His Excellency Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Emirates NBD, as the Person of the Year within the activities of Tamaiaz Award in appreciation of his excellent contributions to the banking sector in the United Arab Emirates over the past thirty years.
Al Tayer was honored during the annual ceremony held for awarding the winners of Tamaiaz in its second round held Saturday at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in presence of ministers, other leading figures, university faculties and students. Mohammed Mosabeh Al Neaimi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award made a speech in which he extended warm thanks to His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, for sponsoring the event, and to His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for attending the event and honoring the winners in the second round of the Award. Al Neaimi also thanked all attendees and said that this round of the award witnessed new features, i.e. the person of the year was honored and the number of nominations increased by 38% to 690 from 502 in the last year. In the second round of the Award, 335 applications were admitted and 118 nominees made it to the final stages out of which 37 students were winners of the awards; comparing to 128 nominees and 31 winners in the first round. "Higher level of excellence must be sought by our students in all fields of life, especially in the field of education as the starting point towards the realization of the ambitious visions of our leaders: His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai; and their highnesses the rulers of the other emirates," Al Neaimi stated, "We appreciate also the active involvement by all institutes of higher educations as an indication of increased awareness of community following many initiatives by our prudent leadership towards providing all support towards establishing the best educational practices." Al Neaimi added. "There is a new plan to enable the board of trustees to address the next strategy in its third round with an aim to increase the number of applications, to improve corporate performance, to enhance the process of evaluation, to join Dubai Government Excellence Program, to have the Award approved as an international classification of education and to invest in talents for the best interests of the country." Al Neaimi concluded. The ceremony started with the UAE national anthem followed by a short film showing the activities of the Award for its first round in addition to reciting a poem dedicated by Naima Al Kabi to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the Ruler of Dubai. At the end of the ceremony, His Highness Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture Authority, accompanied by His Excellency Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer and Mohammed Mosabeh Al Neaimi, honored the winners as well His Excellency Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer as the Person of the Year; other students and organizations were also honored for their efforts which contributed to the success of the Award.Copyright Emirates News Agency (WAM) 2009.
