RABAT - A team of Maghreb high executives Saturday concluded their works at the headquarters of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) Secretariat-General in Rabat by agreeing to create a Maghreb centre for rationalising use of irrigation water.
Participants kickstarted working out of a comprehensive technical file on the situation of the irrigation sector in AMU member states.
The team decided to hold a scientific conference, in 2011, on techniques and mechanisms of irrigated water saving in co-operation with technical partners and backers, such as the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (SSO) and specialised European institutes.
This meeting is part of materialising the recommendations of the 15th session of the ministerial commission specialised in food security which had met last October in Marrakech.
