Ras Al Hadd: Driving the Oman's sustainable tourism model to new heights, Oman Tourism Development Company, Omran, recently completed the installation and furnishing of 10 eco-friendly luxury tents at Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. The wind and rain-proof tents have been imported from a premier Australia company.

The recent increase in accommodation availability also includes the completion of an 800 meter walkway that enables visitors to move from the reserve's Scientific and Visitor Center to the tents' picturesque location.

The installation of the new luxury tents also covers crucial infrastructure and fittings such as electrical, mechanical and plumbing works, fire system fittings, irrigation duct provisions, Internet, TV and data cabling as well as the complete set-up of designated barbeque areas.

"The new and improved facilities are equipped with all the essential amenities expected in a modern hotel setting that offers added comfort and convenience with breath-taking panoramic views of the turtle nesting coast.

"The reserve recorded a 30 per cent increase in tourists last year and the new capacity, which totals 31 units, will cater to the rising demand and influx of tourists expected to visit the reserve" said Nasser Al Maqbali, chief operating officer at Omran.

He added, "Omran believes in the importance of adopting environmentally friendly practices and implementing green standards in all projects. By showcasing and preserving the Sultanate's unique marine ecosystems and taking a considered approach to development, Omran creates memorable tourism destinations that are unique, profitable and sustainable."

12,000 visitors
The Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve is the largest turtle nesting sanctuary in the Indian Ocean that welcomes more than 12,000 visitors each year. Omran Hospitality LLC first began managing the Scientific and Visitor Center at the reserve in 2009 and since then has launched a series of projects to improve the eco-lodging experience.

The Center also features an array of museographical display systems and technologies designed through its hi-tech museum to educate the general public on the life cycle of the giant sea turtle and the archeological findings at the site.
