Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Saad Hayel Srour on Thursday met with Czech Ambassador to Jordan Ivana Holoubkova, who conveyed to Srour a letter from his Czech counterpart, highlighting the need to strengthen parliamentary ties between the two countries.
Srour called for the further strengthening of relations between Jordan and the Czech Republic, particularly at the parliamentary level.
He briefed the ambassador on Jordan's reform process, which is being led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Kingdom's stance on regional issues, and the supervisory role and responsibilities of the Lower House.
The speaker said the House's internal system will be amended and new legislation regulating the political, economic and social spheres will be introduced to strengthen the democratic system and increase public participation in national decision making.
Srour also spoke about the economic challenges facing Jordan due to the current situation in the Middle East, pointing to the increasing pressure over the Kingdom's economy as a result of its hosting of a rising number of Syrian refugees.
The ambassador expressed her country's willingness to further improve relations with Jordan in various fields, adding that both countries could boost cooperation in a number of sectors for their mutual benefit.
