BEIRUT: Lebanon decided Thursday file a complaint with the U.N. Security Council against Israel over its two air raids in the eastern Janta region on the Lebanese-Syrian border, the National News Agency reported.

Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil instructed Lebanons U.N. Permanent Representative Nawaf Salam to file the complaint with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the NNA said.

It added that Ban would, in turn, send the complaint to the Security Council chairman, who would distribute it as a document to member states, while reserving Lebanons right to call the council to meet when it deems fit.

Bassil condemned Mondays Israeli airstrike that targeted a Hezbollah position near the Syrian-Lebanese border, saying the Israeli attack violated U.N. Security council Resolution 1701, which ended Israels 34-day war with Lebanon in 2006.

The foreign minister also called on the United Nations to make Israel comply with Resolution 1701.
