BEIRUT, July 31 (KUNA) -- Lebanese foreign minister Fawzi Salloukh Monday highly appreciated Kuwait's USD 300 million donation to help in reconstruction efforts, in addition to USD 500 million to be deposited in Lebanon's central bank.
"We are thankful" for the initiative of Kuwait, extended upon instructions of the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Lebanon, Salloukh said in a statement to KUNA.
He said Kuwait has always been backing Lebanon during times of need, specially "during emergency circumstances when Lebanon is facing an Israeli aggression shedding the blood of unarmed children, women and elderly."
Salloukh said the Kuwaiti financial support meant against the Israeli enemy which is killing innocent children amidst international silence towards this crime.
Israeli warplanes struck a three-storey building in the southern Lebanese town of Qana yesterday killing some 55 people, including women and children.
The Kuwaiti government decided yesterday to donate USD 300 million to help in reconstruction efforts, in addition to a USD-500-million deposit in the central bank to back the local currency, known as the Lira.
