Lahore: The security at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport has been put on high alert following Friday's bomb explosion at a bus stop on Ferozepur Road that injured 15 people.
According to sources in the Airport Security Force, the security at the airport had been put on high alert after the Dargai incident and the security passes of lower staff members and security officials had been cancelled and only the important ones had been issued passes. High alert is only a notch down from red alert.
They said that all security personnel at the airport are on the lookout for suspicious people and objects.
Most of the passengers at the airport said they wanted better security after reports in the press about the government putting the airport on high alert.
Barricades
It was found that authorities had put up large cemented barricades at the entrances of the terminals to try and stop car bombers from driving in the airport area. Sadia, a passenger, said that she was going to Kuwait and was satisfied with the security arrangements. However, she said that she was worried that technology and modern security methods were lacking.
Also, many passengers intending to travel from the airport have urged the government to use latest technology for foolproof security at airports.
"The government has adopted firm measures to cope with terrorism, but we should also try to acquire the latest technology to counter terrorists," she added.
