Dubai: The recent additional changes in days dedicated to women in beach parks have become popular among female residents, said Dubai Municipality officials on Saturday.
Since April 21, ladies’ day at Al Mamzar Beach Park is now from Sunday to Tuesday, and while Jumeirah Beach Park previously did not have any days dedicated to women, it now has two — Monday and Wednesday.
“We are committed to meeting the needs of residents and visitors and, after carrying out extensive research, we learnt that there was a big demand for days dedicated to women in beach parks which is why we extended the days to other parks,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, who noted that there was a good turn-out of visitors during the four days dedicated to women.
Swimming hours for both parks are from 8am to sunset, while gates close at 10pm.
In Al Mamzar, Beach Numbers 1, 2 and 5 have been allocated for tourists due to the cultural differences of women who want to wear skimpy bathing suits, while Beach Numbers 3 and 4 have been designated for local residents, students, elderly women and women with special needs.
Lootah pointed out that there are female security guards working in two shifts, while gardeners from the municipality’s parks and horticulture department will not work on ladies’ day.
Ahmad Abdul Kareem, director of Parks and Horticulture Department at Dubai Municipality, pointed out that the total number of visitors at parks in 2012 was 6.7 million, an increase of more than seven per cent since 2011 at 6.2 million visitors.
In 2012, the number of visitors at Jumeirah Beach Park was 1 million visitors, Mushrif Park had 757,000, Creek Park 1.079 million, Safa Park 895,000, and Zabeel Park 821,000.
